About Senate District 14

Home of Central Minnesota Democrats

Local politics is where the grassroots of political action get planted! Decisions made at the state legislature affect your property taxes, your kids' schools, your healthcare costs, and the roads you drive on — and the people who influence those decisions are your neighbors.

Democrats in central Minnesota come from a range of backgrounds and hold a range of views. That mix of perspectives is part of what makes the party work — good decisions come from honest conversation, and the DFL is stronger when more voices are part of it!

Getting involved in SD14 DFL means working alongside people from across our Senate District who care about the same things you do, learning how the process actually works from the inside, and having a real say in who represents your community.

Senate District 14

SD14 DFL is the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party organization for Senate District 14, covering communities across Stearns, Benton, and Sherburne counties.

As a senate district organization, we coordinate local party activity between and during elections, recruiting and supporting candidates, organizing volunteers, training precinct officers, and making sure DFL voters across the district are connected to the resources they need.

The Central Committee is the governing body that does that work. It's made up of elected precinct officers and directors from across the district, and it meets monthly to keep the organization growing.

What to expect at a meeting

We hold our monthly Central Committee meetings in person every third Thursday of the month at 6pm.

These meetings follow a straightforward format. Here's how a typical meeting runs:

  • Officer reports — Each officer gives a brief update on their area: organizing, communications, finances, upcoming events, and other active work.

  • New business — The group discusses current priorities, upcoming decisions, and anything that needs a vote.

  • Open floor — Once the formal meeting is adjourned, there is typically time for questions, announcements, and conversation.

Voting is limited to members in specific elected roles like precinct officers and directors. But attendance is open to everyone! If you come as a first-time visitor, you can observe how the organization runs, meet the people leading it, and ask about open roles. Precinct officer and director positions are available throughout the year and don't require prior political experience.

Central Committee meetings are the practical core of how SD14 DFL operates. Showing up once is the fastest way to start making your voice heard in local politics!
